Well it's that time of year again. Spring is in the air and so are many people's allergy symptoms. You may not be aware of the relationship of your nervous system and spine to your body's response to allergens. Many of our patients have noticed dramatic improvements in allergy symptoms and complaints they have had for most of their life relating to that. If you have stress on your spine and nervous system due to postural distortion or trauma in your past, you may have symptoms like allergies that are plaguing you. Check out Scott's story to hear how Chiropractic changed his life.

Allergies Practically Gone

Joe Montana and Jerry Rice are very recognizable names and are true champions. Their careers and life after their careers totally depended on the health and function of their bodies. Many professional football players are disabled after they retire, but these two attribute much of their success in maintaining health to Chiropractic. Jerry was even on Dancing with the Stars. Not too many Hall of Famers able to still move like that. Pretty awesome.

Greatest athlete on the Planet

Said to be one of the greatest athletes on the planet, Lance Armstrong. Shown with his Chiropractor, Dr. Jeff Spencer who was also the lead Doctor for Lance's Health team on the Tour.

From Barely Walking to Racing to the Van

What a great story. Sherrie has been a patient off and on for about 8 months, but most recently she came back and could barely walk with severe lower back pain and leg pain and overall her whole body was in pain. She classified herself as a, "hot mess". She didn't want to do anything and she kind of just scooted into the office and would just sit down in pain. Over a few weeks of Chiropractic we watched her literally transform before our eyes and then just yesterday she agreed to show us how she could race her daughter to the van. This is awesome and we just celebrate with her. She commented at the end that her oxygen tank in her purse weighed her down or she could have won.

The catch is what is your quality of life going to be like when you get there. We have to start now with healthy habits. Enjoy Jack. He's a crack up.

Free Hugs

In this past Tuesday's Spinal Workshop I talked about things people take and do daily and one thing I mentioned was how different things could be if people changed their habits and daily routines. I showed this video as part of the talk. What if we all gave and received more hugs in a day? What kind of difference would that make on all of our emotional health and our relationships? I challenged some of the group that night to try to get 10 hugs a day for a week. What kind of impact would that have?

We Are Published. Huh?

That's right. Several months ago my staff member, Theresa Houchin, submitted her testimonial to be in the partner book for The 100 Year Lifestyle. This book, The 100 Year Lifestyle Workout, is growing in popularity daily and is an Amazon, #1 best seller. We are so proud to be associated with something of such huge success and to be mentioned in the book. You got to check it out. Other names whose testimonials were used include Roger Craig, Ray Lankford and Jack LaLanne to name a few. I am including a url that takes you to Amazon's page for the book and then click to look inside the book and search Theresa Houchin. It goes directly to her testimonial on page 202. Pretty amazing. (You do have to have an Amazon account to utilize the click here.)

What Model Are You Driving?

I was explaining to someone yesterday that our bodies are like cars. We are all born with the model and make of car we will drive our entire life. I just so happen to have a 1974 model. If you knew you only get 1 car and it has to last you forever how different would you take care of it? My suggestion is, with your body, you absolutely must get the alignment and the health of your nervous system checked immediately. Just like the car example, if a check engine light has been coming on occasionally (symptoms), then chances are you need to be evaluated. Don't wait for the big repair bill from neglect.

Theresa's Fight with Colon Cancer

What If This Was You?

"When I first started with this office, I did not know the first thing about Chiropractic or what a person could experience by being under chiropractic care. Working here has really changed my way of thinking after all of the miracles I have seen; some of them may have been yours!"

Here is my story: I have had low back pain for some 25 years. Little did I know that Chiropractic could have had benefits to a lot of "things" that were wrong with me, not to mention acid reflux, female problems, leg & toe cramp, constipation, sinus problems and breathing difficulties. It was always told to me that a lot of these things were happening to me because I was getting older. I do not believe that to be the case at all. After going through a consultation and exam, I discovered that the same area of my upper back that bothered me, controls the heart & lungs. Some of my family members had heart attacks & died. I did not want to be one of them. I wanted to change the pattern of life for my family and me.

In December of 2009 I had to have a colonoscopy. Little did I know that they would find a 32-centimeter mass of cancer that had ruptured and needed to be taken out, along with a foot of my colon. After waking up from surgery, it was explained to me that the mass they had removed had been there for the past 5 -6 years. Good news was it had not spread, nor was it in the lymph nodes or affecting any other part of my body.

While I was in the hospital, the nurses would ask or tell me that it was unusual for a person coming out of surgery, not to have a temperature, catch cold, or have infections, etc. I never had any of those things. I was even asked about the flu shot while I was there and refused. I was asked "why not".

My response was that I was under Chiropractic care. Some would ask what does Chiropractic have to do with it. I explained that the immune system can be boosted 200-400% by being adjusted regularly; therefore my immune system was in good shape. Within 3 weeks of my surgery I was back to work on half days and back to full time 2 weeks later. On the redo of my colonoscopy it was discovered there was one polyp that was removed and everything else looked good. I am back to work sharing my great story and hope that others can experience the greatness of Chiropractic. I feel my story is an inspiration to be able to help others. After all, I am nearing 50 and I feel great! I have lots of energy, nothing hurts, and best of all I feel like I could LIVE to be 100.

Jerry Rice on Chiropractic

This clip is of Dr. Eric Plasker, Chiropractor, and author of The 100 Year Lifestyle.
He is addressing a group of Chiropractors in Las Vegas regarding the momentum of Chiropractic in our culture and how people from all walks of life are choosing Chiropractic as their mode of healthcare.
This video clip features the band Lit from last year's California Jam in Orange County, California. A colleague and friend of mine, Dr. Bill Demoss had a vision to create an unprecedented event to bring as many Chiropractors and patients under one roof as possible. The event's purpose is to fire doctors and patients up to serve more people in their communities with the gift of Chiropractic. I love this guy's passion because I share it. Billy D, as he is affectionately known, is a Chiropractor in a large practice in Newport Beach, California and he lives and breathes Chiropractic as do I. In this clip he is the bald guy with goatee that comes out on stage about halfway through the song and starts to jam. This weekend, March 11-13, is the 3rd annal California Jam so this video is in honor of the cause. I want as many people on board with the natural healthcare model of Chiropractic as possible.

"Chiropractor to the Stars", Dr. Mata, seen here joking around with Jason Alexander, best known from the hit comedy series Seinfeld.
Chiropractor, Dr. Mata seen here adjusting Lance Bass on location, demonstrates that Chiropractic is truly the choice for even high profile celebrities. Check the website of this "Chiropractor to the Stars" to see who else he works with. This is just fun info.

Dr. Becking's Family Gets Adjusted

I truly practice what I teach in my practice to our patients. My wife and girls stopped in last Thursday to get adjusted. You can see Bianca always has to help adjust mommy and little Solie is relaxed and loving her dad working on her. Bianca got adjusted to and I will post a pic later. We truly are a family practice and that includes my own.

Friday's Daily Reading In Our Office

Four time Olympic silver medalist doctor Terry Schroeder has just returned from the Water Polo World Championships in Rome, Italy. Their fourth place finish was the best finish by the USA Water Polo Team ever in the World championships and they have proven that their silver medal run in Beijing was no fluke. With Dr. Schroeder as their coach and the entire team under chiropractic care they are on target for a gold medal in 2012. High level athletes in nearly every sport have chosen to make chiropractic care a part of their training and a part of their lifestyle.

Dr. Jeff Spencer was the team chiropractor for the USA Cycling Team that won 7 Tour de France victories. Dr. Greg Kempf from Cleveland, Ohio has been providing chiropractic care for the Cleveland Browns since 1999 and the Cavaliers for the past five seasons. On game day it is not uncommon for Dr. Kempf to adjust 35 of the 55 members of the team prior to the game including their highest profile players.

The trend toward chiropractic care caught on widely at the Olympics. Athletes are more and more aware of the edge others were receiving and they flock to the care so as not to lose out on any natural advantage. Today a chiropractor is in charge of the medical unit.

The trickle down to youth sports programs is very exciting as more and more high level athletes of all ages are embracing chiropractic care. Ambush Elite Youth Soccer Team, a Georgia affiliate of West Ham United of the English Premier League whose under 17 soccer teamis currently ranked 8th in the nation, receives chiropractic care before every game. At one time they were ranked second. Their coach, David Eristavi, one of the premier youth soccer coaches in the country, believes that all young athletes should have chiropractic care as a part of their training.

Youth sports programs around the country are making chiropractic care available to all of their athletes. It’s not just the guys, it’s the women as well. Kerry Walsh, the two time Olympic gold medalist in volleyball, told me in a recent interview for The 100 Year Lifestyle Workout book that the balance of these three elements of the ESS, Endurance, Strength and Structure, are an important factor in her training and her success. Her workouts on the court are cardiovascular and build her endurance. Off the court she does Pilates, plyometrics, and strength-training that gives her the added punch she needs for an overhead spike. She also takes care of her structure through chiropractic care and other holistic techniques to balance her spine and keep her muscles strong and flexible. Kerri considers the structural element of her fitness routine to be an important factor that separates her from the pack.

Jerry Rice, the spokesperson for the Foundation of Chiropractic Progress Campaign, “I did a lot of things to stay in the game but regular visits to my chiropractor were among the most important.”

If you are an athlete who wants the competitive edge, or who is injured and wants to recover quickly, chiropractic care can give you the edge you are seeking.

Ashley's Chiropractic Miracle

When I was fourteen years old I was diagnosed with migraine headaches. I had many dizzy spells, I would black out at any time, and I had blurry vision while experiencing a migraine. I went to a neurologist who recommended that I see an eye doctor. My eyes were perfect but he thought I might need reading glasses. When that didn’t help my doctor thought I should have an MRI done. It showed up negative, nothing was found. So the doctor said I should have more tests done. I went through rigorous tests; EEG which is a test that measures and records the electrical activity of your brain. I had an EKG which is a test that checks for problems with the electrical activity of your heart. I also had a sleep tests. I had blood drawn every week for 6 weeks trying to find out what was wrong with me. None of the test showed anything. I appeared to be very healthy. Finally my neurologist came to the conclusion that I was depressed at 14 years and my migraines were being caused from stress. I was prescribed with depression medicine. I was not depressed. In fact I was quite happy. The medicine was one that you were supposed to take everyday at the same time of day. I’m not one for taking medicine especially something I didn’t think I needed. I only took the medicine when I had a migraine because that’s what I needed medicine for, NOT because I was depressed. I started having many issues with the medicine. I went from being a happy normal 14 year old to a kind of person no one wishes to be. I quit hanging out with my friends, I lost all interest in school, and I was mean to my parents and siblings. I didn’t want to do anything besides sit at home by myself and watch TV or stare at the walls. For months I was this way. I then came to Dr. Becking and received a few adjustments. Immediately my migraines and the constant headaches were gone. I decided to quit taking my depression medicine and continue with chiropractic. I have been under chiropractic care for 5 years now. I feel great I have my energy back and have had only two migraines in 5 years compared to at least one a week. I think if I had stayed with the medicine my life would be much different today. I thank Dr. Becking and all the things he has done for me.
