I'm fine...... My car on the other hand......is?

With damage to metal like this, imagine what damage can be done to your spine and body. This was my car after hitting a deer a few weeks ago. Do you know how stress and injury is impacting your body? We all typically respond with an "I'm fine" even though odds are we aren't. If metal is affected this significantly you can bet you are to. Injuries don't always show up to the degree of instant pains. Research supports that permanent damage can happen with an impact of just 5 m.p.h. or more.

What will you be doing when you are 100?

iPad Is First Computer 100-Year-Old Woman Bought

iPad Is First Computer 100-Year-Old Woman BoughtThe iPad is so easy to use, a cat can play with it. So can a dog! But what about a centenarian? Virginia of Oregon bought her first computer—an iPad—and as the video shows, she's a whizz.

According to her daughter Ginny, the iPad has "changed her life," as the glucoma-suffering woman has found reading and writing much easier on the iPad. In fact, she's read two ebooks, and written 12 limericks—one of which appears in the video below, where she calls herself a "technical-ninny."

Warms your cold, cold heart right through, doesn't it? [CNET]

What if we all decided to follow this button? Life can truly be outstanding and it is up to us to live like that.

Saturday, August 21, 2010

Life really is amazing. I am learning that we must constantly grow and have a willingness to admit we need improvements if we plan to succeed. I recently discovered I have challenges letting others take responsibility and I try to do too much. This was a hard realization, but this is a game changer.

Wednesday, July 21, 2010

Great turn out.

Every week I am blown away by the people that continue to show up to our workshops. I am thankful to have an audience to teach and help play a role in advancing the health of our community. Last night we learned that injuries, any time in life, lead to arthritis and degeneration if not corrected and maintained. Chiropractic plays a huge role in maintaining the health of the spine. Looking forward to next week's talk already. Click on the title for details Chiropractic: Your Big Picture.

You can follow exclusive footage of this race on facebook when connecting with a friend of ours, Dr. Jeff Spencer, Lance's Chiropractor, who is at the tour right now and posting daily the updates that T.V. wouldn't even know. MEMORIAL DAY VACATION

What a week we have had and we are wrapping up today with just a morning shift as we all prepare for a holiday weekend. Vacations are a much needed part of health and life and I trust that everyone is planning some form of enjoyment over the next 3 days. We all work hard so we must play hard. This is what Dr. Becking would prescribe for all people and that is take time to have fun with family and friends this Memorial Day weekend.

Tuesday, May 25, 2010

I can't believe it has been 5 years since the week we opened for business for the first time ever. Becking Chiropractic began service 5 years ago this Memorial Day weekend. What an awesome 5 it has been. We are celebrating in our office tomorrow, Wednesday May 26, 2010. We will have normal Wednesday music. 80's all day of course. We will have balloons, cupcakes, subway sandwich giveaways, pictures and stories of the past 5 years. Congratulations Becking Chiropractic.

"If you have had a good experience in our office and if your life is improving because of things we are doing, would you be willing to tell us? Get online at google maps and write a review and rate us. We want our community to have an understanding of our practice instead of just a dry business listing. If you were searching for our practice and saw comments from other patients that rated our practice very high with positive feedback, wouldn't you be more trusting of trying us? We think so." "I want to be a 5 star service provider."

Mom and Baby doing Well

It truly is a miracle to see the process of birth from conception to delivery. I have had the privilege of working with Ashlyn all the way through her pregnancy even adjusting her the day before she delivered. It is awesome to now be able to check and adjust Adilyn for the first time and realize that from birth this little kid is going to grow up knowing a different way of experiencing health. Congratulations to Ashlyn and the family.

These are 2 videos that are worth checking out demonstrating people that are living the idea of The 100 Year Lifestyle. You will most likely need a FACEBOOK account to view them.

The 100 Year Lifestyle

The 100 Year Lifestyle is a topic I am passionate about. I first learned of this about 2 years ago from a successful Chiropractor out of Atlanta, Dr. Eric Plasker, author of the best-selling book, The 100 Year Lifestyle. He inspired me to clarify my mission as a Chiropractor and Healthcare Provider. Join us this next Tuesday night, May 18th at 6:00 p.m. as I spend 30 minutes diving into the very habits and lifestyle choices that every person needs to consider if they want to be healthy at 100 and beyond. Are your current habits supporting you, living in the same body you have right now, when you are 100 and beyond? Most people would have to say no. Let us help you.

Migraines

Join us this next Tuesday night as we talk about one of the most devastating disorders a person can have. A migraine headache.

How Thankful Are We?

I've shown this video a few times at our Spinal Workshop on Tuesday night and it is always a good reminder of how complacent we can get and how quick we forget how much we have. We are all so blessed just to be alive and have what we do. Look around and ask around because there is always someone more challenged than you. Let's all be more thankful and express more gratitude in a day and watch how it makes the world go around so much better.

Spinal Workshop this upcoming Tuesday night. Will Be a Full House.

Should be our biggest crowd yet. We are honestly beginning to make plans to have off site classes because of the demand and size of the classes. This is a fun problem to face, but for now we pack in at the office of Becking Chiropractic.

Bianca Becking interview about Chiropractic

When I quizzed Bianca tonight about scenarios if she were to fall you can hear that she clearly knows the importance of getting her spine checked and adjusted. You can't understand her clearly when she says get adjusted. Chiropractic adjustments are what allow the spine and nervous system to run properly.
If you would like more info don't hesitate to drop an email or even call the office.

Darryl Kile (1968-2002)

He left a wife and 3 kids. I was not able to determine if he was ever evaluated by a Chiropractor, but all of his available Physicians agreed he was perfectly healthy ready to play baseball another year.

33-Year- Old Cardinal's Pitcher Dies Unexpectedly

We spoke of the similarities in Cancer, Subluxation and Heart Disease at tonight's Spinal Workshop. The overriding theme is prevention. All of these disease processes start small and because of neglect for years their damage is large and the awareness of is sometimes sudden. We cannot wait until pain shows up. Damage occurs without pain most often. I shared the true story of a Cardinal's pitcher in 2002 that died unexpectedly of a heart attack. He was a healthy 33-year- old. Check his story out.

Good Friday

There are few times in the year that I will voice my beliefs and Good Friday is one of them. We honor the day by being out of the office and I give myself and others the opportunity to reflect on what Good Friday and Easter mean for many people. I found a video on You Tube years ago that expresses my thoughts and emotion perfectly. This video is of a band that leads music for one of the largest churches on the planet, Hillsong, in Australia. This video captures how I feel when I think of the blessings and the gifts in my life. Make sure you go full screen, turn the volume up and really listen to the words. In my opinion there is nothing like seeing 10's of thousands of people honoring God. Regardless of your beliefs Easter is a time of year to ask questions. Be thankful and enjoy this 7 minute clip.

Check out our YouTube channel.
Well it's that time of year again. Spring is in the air and so are many people's allergy symptoms. You may not be aware of the relationship of your nervous system and spine to your body's response to allergens. Many of our patients have noticed dramatic improvements in allergy symptoms and complaints they have had for most of their life relating to that. If you have stress on your spine and nervous system due to postural distortion or trauma in your past, you may have symptoms like allergies that are plaguing you. Check out Scott's story to hear how Chiropractic changed his life.

Joe Montana and Jerry Rice are very recognizable names and are true champions. Their careers and life after their careers totally depended on the health and function of their bodies. Many professional football players are disabled after they retire, but these two attribute much of their success in maintaining health to Chiropractic. Jerry was even on Dancing with the Stars. Not too many Hall of Famers able to still move like that. Pretty awesome.

Greatest athlete on the Planet

Said to be one of the greatest athletes on the planet, Lance Armstrong. Shown with his Chiropractor, Dr. Jeff Spencer who was also the lead Doctor for Lance's Health team on the Tour.

From Barely Walking to Racing to the Van

What a great story. Sherrie has been a patient off and on for about 8 months, but most recently she came back and could barely walk with severe lower back pain and leg pain and overall her whole body was in pain. She classified herself as a, "hot mess". She didn't want to do anything and she kind of just scooted into the office and would just sit down in pain. Over a few weeks of Chiropractic we watched her literally transform before our eyes and then just yesterday she agreed to show us how she could race her daughter to the van. This is awesome and we just celebrate with her. She commented at the end that her oxygen tank in her purse weighed her down or she could have won.

100 Year Lifestyle

This is a preview for our Spinal Workshop this upcoming Tuesday night at 6 in our office. Jack is considered the Godfather of health and he is so inspiring. We all can be challenged by his energy and drive and he is mid 90's in age. Check it out. The whole premise of the 100 Year Lifestyle is odds are we are all going to live to be 100. The catch is what is your quality of life going to be like when you get there. We have to start now with healthy habits. Enjoy Jack. He's a crack up.

Free Hugs

In this past Tuesday's Spinal Workshop I talked about things people take and do daily and one thing I mentioned was how different things could be if people changed their habits and daily routines. I showed this video as part of the talk. What if we all gave and received more hugs in a day? What kind of difference would that make on all of our emotional health and our relationships? I challenged some of the group that night to try to get 10 hugs a day for a week. What kind of impact would that have?

We Are Published. Huh?

That's right. Several months ago my staff member, Theresa Houchin, submitted her testimonial to be in the partner book for The 100 Year Lifestyle. This book, The 100 Year Lifestyle Workout, is growing in popularity daily and is an Amazon, #1 best seller. We are so proud to be associated with something of such huge success and to be mentioned in the book. You got to check it out. Other names whose testimonials were used include Roger Craig, Ray Lankford and Jack LaLanne to name a few. I am including a url that takes you to Amazon's page for the book and then click to look inside the book and search Theresa Houchin. It goes directly to her testimonial on page 202. Pretty amazing. (You do have to have an Amazon account to utilize the click here.)

What Model Are You Driving?

I was explaining to someone yesterday that our bodies are like cars. We are all born with the model and make of car we will drive our entire life. I just so happen to have a 1974 model. If you knew you only get 1 car and it has to last you forever how different would you take care of it? My suggestion is, with your body, you absolutely must get the alignment and the health of your nervous system checked immediately. Just like the car example, if a check engine light has been coming on occasionally (symptoms), then chances are you need to be evaluated. Don't wait for the big repair bill from neglect.

Theresa's Fight with Colon Cancer

What If This Was You?

"When I first started with this office, I did not know the first thing about Chiropractic or what a person could experience by being under chiropractic care. Working here has really changed my way of thinking after all of the miracles I have seen; some of them may have been yours!"

Here is my story: I have had low back pain for some 25 years. Little did I know that Chiropractic could have had benefits to a lot of "things" that were wrong with me, not to mention acid reflux, female problems, leg & toe cramp, constipation, sinus problems and breathing difficulties. It was always told to me that a lot of these things were happening to me because I was getting older. I do not believe that to be the case at all. After going through a consultation and exam, I discovered that the same area of my upper back that bothered me, controls the heart & lungs. Some of my family members had heart attacks & died. I did not want to be one of them. I wanted to change the pattern of life for my family and me.

In December of 2009 I had to have a colonoscopy. Little did I know that they would find a 32-centimeter mass of cancer that had ruptured and needed to be taken out, along with a foot of my colon. After waking up from surgery, it was explained to me that the mass they had removed had been there for the past 5 -6 years. Good news was it had not spread, nor was it in the lymph nodes or affecting any other part of my body.

While I was in the hospital, the nurses would ask or tell me that it was unusual for a person coming out of surgery, not to have a temperature, catch cold, or have infections, etc. I never had any of those things. I was even asked about the flu shot while I was there and refused. I was asked "why not".

My response was that I was under Chiropractic care. Some would ask what does Chiropractic have to do with it. I explained that the immune system can be boosted 200-400% by being adjusted regularly; therefore my immune system was in good shape. Within 3 weeks of my surgery I was back to work on half days and back to full time 2 weeks later. On the redo of my colonoscopy it was discovered there was one polyp that was removed and everything else looked good. I am back to work sharing my great story and hope that others can experience the greatness of Chiropractic. I feel my story is an inspiration to be able to help others. After all, I am nearing 50 and I feel great! I have lots of energy, nothing hurts, and best of all I feel like I could LIVE to be 100.

Jerry Rice on Chiropractic

This clip is of Dr. Eric Plasker, Chiropractor, and author of The 100 Year Lifestyle.
He is addressing a group of Chiropractors in Las Vegas regarding the momentum of Chiropractic in our culture and how people from all walks of life are choosing Chiropractic as their mode of healthcare.
This video clip features the band Lit from last year's California Jam in Orange County, California. A colleague and friend of mine, Dr. Bill Demoss had a vision to create an unprecedented event to bring as many Chiropractors and patients under one roof as possible. The event's purpose is to fire doctors and patients up to serve more people in their communities with the gift of Chiropractic. I love this guy's passion because I share it. Billy D, as he is affectionately known, is a Chiropractor in a large practice in Newport Beach, California and he lives and breathes Chiropractic as do I. In this clip he is the bald guy with goatee that comes out on stage about halfway through the song and starts to jam. This weekend, March 11-13, is the 3rd annal California Jam so this video is in honor of the cause. I want as many people on board with the natural healthcare model of Chiropractic as possible.

"Chiropractor to the Stars", Dr. Mata, seen here joking around with Jason Alexander, best known from the hit comedy series Seinfeld.
Chiropractor, Dr. Mata seen here adjusting Lance Bass on location, demonstrates that Chiropractic is truly the choice for even high profile celebrities. Check the website of this "Chiropractor to the Stars" to see who else he works with. This is just fun info.

Keep Up With What's Happening.

Keep up with what's happening in the life of our practice by following us on facebook and this blog.

This is a group picture the week my wife and I were in Ethiopia meeting our amazing Solie Koket Becking.

Dr. Becking's Family Gets Adjusted

I truly practice what I teach in my practice to our patients. My wife and girls stopped in last Thursday to get adjusted. You can see Bianca always has to help adjust mommy and little Solie is relaxed and loving her dad working on her. Bianca got adjusted to and I will post a pic later. We truly are a family practice and that includes my own.

Friday's Daily Reading In Our Office

Four time Olympic silver medalist doctor Terry Schroeder has just returned from the Water Polo World Championships in Rome, Italy. Their fourth place finish was the best finish by the USA Water Polo Team ever in the World championships and they have proven that their silver medal run in Beijing was no fluke. With Dr. Schroeder as their coach and the entire team under chiropractic care they are on target for a gold medal in 2012. High level athletes in nearly every sport have chosen to make chiropractic care a part of their training and a part of their lifestyle.

Dr. Jeff Spencer was the team chiropractor for the USA Cycling Team that won 7 Tour de France victories. Dr. Greg Kempf from Cleveland, Ohio has been providing chiropractic care for the Cleveland Browns since 1999 and the Cavaliers for the past five seasons. On game day it is not uncommon for Dr. Kempf to adjust 35 of the 55 members of the team prior to the game including their highest profile players.

The trend toward chiropractic care caught on widely at the Olympics. Athletes are more and more aware of the edge others were receiving and they flock to the care so as not to lose out on any natural advantage. Today a chiropractor is in charge of the medical unit.

The trickle down to youth sports programs is very exciting as more and more high level athletes of all ages are embracing chiropractic care. Ambush Elite Youth Soccer Team, a Georgia affiliate of West Ham United of the English Premier League whose under 17 soccer teamis currently ranked 8th in the nation, receives chiropractic care before every game. At one time they were ranked second. Their coach, David Eristavi, one of the premier youth soccer coaches in the country, believes that all young athletes should have chiropractic care as a part of their training.

Youth sports programs around the country are making chiropractic care available to all of their athletes. It’s not just the guys, it’s the women as well. Kerry Walsh, the two time Olympic gold medalist in volleyball, told me in a recent interview for The 100 Year Lifestyle Workout book that the balance of these three elements of the ESS, Endurance, Strength and Structure, are an important factor in her training and her success. Her workouts on the court are cardiovascular and build her endurance. Off the court she does Pilates, plyometrics, and strength-training that gives her the added punch she needs for an overhead spike. She also takes care of her structure through chiropractic care and other holistic techniques to balance her spine and keep her muscles strong and flexible. Kerri considers the structural element of her fitness routine to be an important factor that separates her from the pack.

Jerry Rice, the spokesperson for the Foundation of Chiropractic Progress Campaign, “I did a lot of things to stay in the game but regular visits to my chiropractor were among the most important.”

If you are an athlete who wants the competitive edge, or who is injured and wants to recover quickly, chiropractic care can give you the edge you are seeking.
